Best album of 2012, the sweep of these songs is breathtaking, an album of such unabashed simplicity that its excellence and originality seem barely feasible, medium and message merge to produce a simplicity that is devastating - UNWASHED TERRITORIES. Lovely British boy-with-a-guitar lullabies – SONGS ILLINOIS.NET.

Enduring songs for the hopelessly romantic and romantically hopeless - GOLDFLAKE PAINT.

A small stroke of lightning in the merciless hot summer - INDIE FOR BUNNIES.

Charming, intimate & sweetly melodic; a singer-songwriter of snowflake delicate indiepop; easy shuffly folky rhythms with the loveliest of melodies; contains some of his best work to date, this is where he takes flight - SOUNDSXP.

KISSES ON A PLATE Oh I’ll pick all the apples from the tree till I find the one good enough for you to eat. Singing songs you’ll have never heard, singing them to you like a Blackbird. And if I drink till I cannot walk straight well I’ll still see you home to the garden gate. Giving you kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late. Sweet kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late. Oh the trouble with getting older the temper grows quicker and the shoulder colder. And you realise you’ve no more time to waste so leave those dishes and come and have a taste, of these kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late. Sweet kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late. Kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late. Sweet kisses on a plate, sweet kisses oh it’s not too late, it's not too late, it's not too late.

BLACK SWANS ON THE WATER Walking through the park as evening grows dark, catching bugs in the air around our hair. Straying from the path down onto the grass, all the stars in the sky know we are there. When the moon’s in its last quarter and the black swans are out on the water, then it all looks too good to turn away. When I feel your hand in my hand, then I know this night’s in our hands and I hope everything can stay this way. Walking through the trees with the evening breeze blowing in from the sea so cool and free. Straying from the path down onto the grass all the birds sing goodnight to you and me. When the moon’s in its last quarter and the black swans are out on the water, then it all looks too good to turn away. When I feel your hand in my hand then I know this night’s in our hands and I hope everything can stay this way.

HAND-ME-DOWNS Doomed to spend his teens in ill fitting jeans hoping the local girls won’t see. But everything’s alright come the twilight, the moonlight, at midnight in the woods it’s too dark to see. Oh he will always wear hand-me-downs, lipstick on his brother’s shirt, running around this tiny town in his brother’s hand-me-downs. Yeah he will always wear hand-me-downs, throw backs from who knows when, head to toe in that puzzled frown in his brother’s hand-me-downs. Trying not to freeze in his short shirtsleeves, hoping the local girls won’t tease. But everything’s alright come the twilight, the moonlight, at midnight in the woods it’s too black to see. Oh he longs to woo in something new, in something new. He longs to be finally free like the birds in the trees. But he will always wear hand-me-downs, lipstick on his brother’s shirt, running around this tiny town in his brother’s hand-me-downs. Yeah he will always wear hand-me-downs, throw backs from who knows when, head to toe in that lovely frown in his brother’s hand-me-downs. Yeah he will always wear hand-me-downs, lipstick on his brother’s shirt, running around this tiny town in his brother’s hand-me-downs. Yeah he will always wear hand-me-downs, throw backs from who knows when, head to toe in that lovely frown in his brother’s hand-me-downs.

SUCH A PRETTY SIGHT Now that the day has come you’re sitting in the sun, with your shoes undone, waiting for someone to quench your thirst. Now that it’s afternoon you know she’ll be here soon, a heart like a balloon on its honeymoon, fit to burst. Oh it was such a pretty sight, you could have watched it all night long (all night long). But it will never die stuck in your mind’s eye. Now that the evening’s here you’re running with the deer, the raindrops hide your tears, as you prick your ears, soaked to the bone. Now that the night’s in view and the moon is new, the owls twit-t'woo at the sight of you, so far from home. Oh it was such a pretty sight, you could have watched it all night long (all night long). It will never die stuck in your mind’s eye. Yeah it was such a pretty sight, you could have watched it all night long (all night long) but it can never die, stuck in your mind’s eye. Stuck in your mind’s eye. Stuck in your mind’s eye.

LADY GREY Lady Grey the highlight of the day seems to me to be your company. Oh Lady Grey how I love your way spending the day in your company. Yeah Lady Grey I have to say with you I lose track of the days, they all seem the same to me from Monday to Sunday. Yeah Lady Grey I have to say with you I lose track of the way, I don’t know if I’m going this way or that way. Are you dreaming of another place and time where I am yours and you are mine? No waste of space and no waste of time, I am yours and you are mine, mine, sweet Lady Grey. Lady Grey the songbird comes each day for the pleasure of your company. Yeah Lady Grey how he loves your ways spending his days in your company. Yeah Lady Grey I have to say with you I lose track of the days, they all seem the same to me from Monday to Sunday. Yeah Lady Grey I have to say with you I lose track of the way, I don’t know if I’m going this way or that way. Are you dreaming of another place and time, where I am yours and you are mine. No waste of space and no waste of time. I am yours and you are mine, mine, sweet Lady Grey.

SOMEWHERE QUIET WE COULD GO Oh it was chucking it down in London town, I took her hand on the underground, we had to get away ooh yeah we had to get away. Yeah things were getting us down in London town, it would lift us up then it would drag us down, we had to get away, ooh yeah we had to run away. And she just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go, she just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go. Oh we were kicking around in London Town, she looked me up and she looked me down, I had to turn away ooh yeah I had to turn away. Yeah things were getting us down in London town, wary of the pigeons weary of the crowds, we had to get away, mmm yeah we had to run away. And she just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go. She just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go. She just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go. She just happened to know of somewhere quiet we could go.

UP ON THE DOWNS We rolled around till the sun came down up on the downs. I swear up there you can only hear natural sounds. Well on a good day you can see all across town up on the downs. Yeah on a good day you can see for miles and miles around. I was a little lost but I was found up on the downs. I used to follow the Swallow for miles and miles around. Now on a good day I won’t let you down up on the downs. Yeah on a good day I will come back come back down. Oh this seems like a dream that we’ve just found, feels like there’s no one else around. If love leaves us now it won’t make a sound. If love leaves us now it won’t turn around, turn around, up on the downs. I was a little lost but I was found up on the downs. I used to follow the Swallow for miles and miles around. Now if you stick around I won’t let you down up on the downs. Yeah if you stick around I will come back, come back down. Oh this seems like a dream that we’ve just found, seems like there’s no one else around. If love leaves us now it won’t make a sound. If love leaves us now it won’t turn around. Yeah this seems like a dream that we’ve just found, seems like there’s no one else around. If love leaves us now it won’t make a sound, if love leaves us now it won’t turn around, turn around, up on the downs. Up on the downs. Up on the downs. Up on the downs.

WHEN THE ROBIN SPREADS HIS WINGS AND SINGS When the Robin spreads his wings and sings, I'm reminded of many beautiful things and I hear the pretty sound of him strumming my heart strings, when the Robin spreads his wings and sings. When the Robin spreads his wings and sings, I feel a love that never dies and how it clings, I taste the tears that drop like rain and oh boy how they sting, when the Robin spreads his wings and sings. And now the sun greets each new morning as if it were spring, as if it were spring (spring) and the moon smiles down upon all the hope he brings, upon all the hope he brings (brings). When the Robin spreads his wings and sings. When the Robin spreads his wings and sings, he makes me feel just like the king of kings, he makes me feel like I could do oh almost anything, when the Robin spreads his wings and sings. When the Robin spreads his wings and sings, I feel a love that never dies and how it clings, I taste the tears that drop like rain and oh boy how they sting, when the Robin spreads his wings and sings. And now the sun greets each new morning as if it were spring, as if it were spring (spring). And the moon smiles down upon all the hope he brings, upon all the hope he brings (brings). Yeah now the sun greets each new morning as if it were spring, as if it were spring (spring). And the moon smiles down upon all the hope he brings, upon all the hope he brings (brings). When the Robin spreads his wings and sings. When the Robin spreads his wings and sings.

FIREWORKS IN THIS SMALL TOWN TONIGHT Oh you looked because you knew all hope would die if you failed to catch her eye. And you drank till you were drunk enough to chance asking for a dance. And you kissed ‘cause you were hoping to see sparks flying in the dark. Uh-uh-oh. Who needs this full moon when your eyes shine so bright, there’ll be fireworks in this small town tonight. Oh you walked her slow across muddy ground to where the love birds are found. And you held her in your farmer’s arms with sweaty palms. And you kissed ‘cause you were hoping to see sparks flying in the dark. Uh-uh-oh. Who needs this full moon when your eyes shine so bright, there’ll be fireworks in this small town tonight. Uh-uh-oh. Who needs this full moon when your eyes shine so bright, you can make your own stars tonight. Oh-oh-oh ooh-oh. Oh-oh-oh ooh-oh. Oh-oh-oh ooh-oh. Oh-oh-oh ooh-oh. You better not touch this burning burning love. You better shield your eyes from this burning burning love. You better stand well back from this burning burning love. You better turn and run from this burning burning love.

OH WHAT A DAY (OH WHAT A NIGHT) Oh what a day oh what a night, the sky turned grey and the birds took flight. Oh what a day, oh what a day and oh what a night. Oh what a day oh what a night, you couldn’t stay and you wouldn’t fight. Oh what a day, oh what a day and oh what a night. I won’t be the one to say now, ‘You’re gonna have your day now’, when you know there’s no chance in sight. Oh is it any wonder we would love to steal your thunder watching you put us all under a spell every night. Oh what a day oh what a night, the sky turned grey and the birds took flight. Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh what a day and oh what a night. Oh what a night. Oh what a night. Oh what a night.
